Lessons & Demonstrations

Event Registration

You can use the form below to sign up for Urasenke Philadelphia-sponsored tea gatherings and other events. If you're interested in a demonstration - such as our monthly demos at Shofuso - please contact the sponsoring organization.

If you're new to chado, please be aware that a gathering is not a public demonstration; these are actual tea ceremonies. While we welcome guests who have never been to a tea ceremony before, keep in mind the following guidelines:

  1. During a tea gathering, there is a very specific sequence to the events. You don't need to be familiar with all of the nuances, but we do ask that you respect the rules of tea ceremony and do your best to follow along with the flow.
  2. It's bad etiquette to leave in the middle of a tea gathering, so plan to arrive at least fifteen minutes before the start time and stay for the entire event. Formal gatherings can last for three or four hours; the event listing will let you know how long we estimate it will take.
  3. Tea ceremonies are generally held sitting on the floor. If you aren't able to sit for long periods and need a chair or other sitting aid, please let us know in advance.
