Grants and Scholarships

Urasenke Philadelphia offers grants to support education about Japanese tea ceremony. These take two basic forms:

1. Grants for schools. These are for any type of educational institution, including grade schools, colleges or universities, nonprofit organizations, libraries, etc. These funds may be used for demonstrations, lectures, classes or workshops, or similar purposes.

2. Scholarships for students. These funds are intended for students who would like to take classes in tea ceremony, and may be used for lesson or materials fees, transportation, etc.

Grant or Scholarship Amounts: In general, grants or scholarships are available in amounts of up to $500 per group or individual.

Deadline: None. Applications may be submitted at any time.

Procedure: To apply, fill out the appropriate form below and mail it to us. Duplicate submission by e-mail is encouraged, but we must have a signed copy of the form to proceed. If you do not receive confirmation of receipt, please contact us.

Note that applicants must explain the purpose for which the funds will be used -- for example, if a demonstrator's fee is $200 and you are requesting $300, you must account for the extra $100 on your application.

Funds must be used or returned within 12 months of the date the check is issued.

Individuals or organizations receiving funds must submit verification that the funds were used. For example, if the funds were requested for a demonstration, the demonstrator must submit a written confirmation that the event took place, including date, time, and number of people involved; a student taking lessons must send (or ask his or her teacher to send) confirmation that the lessons were completed. Any unused funds must be returned.

If you have any questions, please feel free to e-mail us at urasenkepa@gmail.com.
